Color ME corrected (cheap, I know)... this song IS pretty damn great. I wasn't buyin' at first. But I gave it a real good listen in headphones a couple minutes ago and now I get it. Among the many cool things happening there, I love how you held out the word "happy" just a little longer the second time around. Cool tune.

I think that this is the song, so far, that has had the most instant appeal for me. Excellent, excellent stuff. I'm getting a Kings X vibe, and it made me pick up my bass and play along!

Engaging is a good word for this Jason. I was taken aback at a couple of points in this song at how it takes such sharp yet smooth turns.

Shawn, really appreciating the good music here. The volume and reverb on the guitar solos was a nice surprise. Perfect harmonics and harmonies :) Could get addicted to this one.

The musical arrangement is identical to that original version, even down to having pretty similar guitar solos.

The words/melodies this time are pretty different. There's MORE of them, for one thing. The old version doesn't have singing starting at bar 1, and I don't think there were any words in the pre-solo bridge thing (although I think "ooohs" of some sort existed there). The chorus melody is similar in some spots, while the verses are very very different. There were no harmonies at all in the verses before.

And the subject matter is completely changed. I never liked the old one because it was kind of a moony straight-ahead love song, and most of the sentiment, while heartfelt, was kinda... standard Hallmark greeting card sorta stuff. I always liked the music, though, and that's why I'd come back to it from time to time to see if I could think of something to do with it. It's pretty hard to throw out all the words and start over, even if you don't like what came out in the first round.

I couldn't play real drums to save my life, so, no, those are programmed. I love to write for drums, though, and that's why I get annoyed when I hear certain people saying "drum machines suck!" or "programming drums sucks!" I agree that they CAN suck, but doing so, in and of itself, does NOT suck.

Hi,

Even with all of the new stuff, this song still has a very "blast from the past" sound to it for me. I don't know if my copy of "Shuteye" includes a version of this song or not, but I can definitely hear its unique sound from that era throughout.

Interesting lyrics, as they usually are for me (because I can't help but try to figure out from where they're coming, their influences, their story, etc.).

every week on mondays I get a sort of preview of your song at work. I can't listen to it, but I always read what you tell about the song on bandcamp. And I read the lyrics, trying to imagine what they will sound like.

This week your lyrics alone gave me goosebumps. Great stuff.
