With the release of this week's song #26, I have now released too much music this year to fit on one CD.
I just think that's kind of neat. As you were.

5240 Song #26: That Bridge Won't Come Down
5240 Song #26 (for June 29, 2009):
That Bridge Won't Come Down
If this isn't the "Wild Honey Pie" of this project, I don't know what would be.

UPDATE, Tuesday Morning (PST): If you downloaded this yesterday, you may want to download again. For the first time in this project, I didn't get the finished version of this song to Darin for mastering in time to get it posted here Monday morning, so yesterday was a "home-brew" master of my own. The current version linked to above is the now-mastered-by-Darin version (the Bandcamp version is also updated).

Me And My Big Mouth?
Derek Sivers, the guy who created CD Baby, makes me wonder if I shoulda kept quiet about my "5240" intentions in a post here.
But then, I wonder what I should have said instead? Should I have just started releasing songs every Monday without warning?
I do know that my efforts in publicizing this thing have run into some obstructions, i.e., "Wait, you're doing WHAT?" and "So... it's not an album?"
Food for thinking.

5240 Song #24: Color Me Corrected
5240 Song #24 (for June 15, 2009):
Color Me Corrected
A revamping of a very old song, that dates from the pre-Any Raw Flesh? era. Completely new words and melodies, reflecting my current sensibilities a bit more.
Check out the Bandcamp.com listing for this track for lyrics and stuff.

My Cheatin' Heart
I'm cheating a little this week.
I've got this old song, that's never been "properly" released on anything, because I knew I had to redo the lyrics/melodies if I was going to do something with it. It was unofficially released way back when when I did those "Shuteye" tapes by hand in the mid-90's.
I've been thinking I might use this project to revisit this song, and I've resisted the idea until now, when I'm at a point where I really need to get ahead of the game a bit. I'm going to Los Angeles over the July 4th holiday here in the States, and so I've got to have the song for the following Monday done before I leave, and well. Let's just say that I've been pushing the limits as far as getting songs done and out to Darin to pretty close to the wire lately.
So. Cheating. With an old tune. A pre-Any Raw Flesh? tune that only a very few of you paying attention will have heard any prior versions of. The vocals are all brand-new writing, though, and of course it's a completely new recording.
UPDATE: So much for making up some time. I didn't get the finished mix to Darin until 10:30 AM this (SATURDAY) morning. Argh.
