In a few minutes, I will be sitting down to work on what will turn out to be THE LAST SONG OF THE PROJECT.
Any "significance" of this isn't hitting me, because as far as I'm concerned, I've just got another song to do. I have a feeling that when I wake up one day soon without a weekly song deadline waiting for me, THEN it's going to hit me.
But not yet.
I have three evenings to work on this before I fly to the east coast on Thursday morning. I fly home on Sunday night. As I mentioned previously, the likelihood of having the song done by Monday morning is nil. But I will be working mightily to get the thing posted before 2010 comes calling. Even if I get it posted at 11:59 PM on December 31, I'll feel good about that.
If you are following my Twitter feed, I will be "live-Tweeting" my progress on song 52 as I go. I'll mark the posts with the hashtag "#52of52" for easy searching/reference. I'm also hoping to have the video camera on here and there, because I'll need to put together some sort of final video entry for all this, right? Wish I would've scrounged up a few more of the vids this year, but y'all know how things went.

Without even hearing a note of the final song, I just want to congratulate you for what you've managed to accomplish with this project. When it finally sinks in after it's all done, I hope you realize how amazing it actually is.
I'm blown away by the fact that you were able to conceive and produce 52 new, original songs in one year. The fact that you were dealing with some overwhelming personal stuff through it all speaks volumes about you. That they all turned out so fucking good speaks volumes about your talent.
Yeah, so I sound like a fan boy...so be it.
The songs rock and 5240 has made this a great year for music. I hope you found what you were hoping to get out of this. Congrats Shawn, and I hope your 2010 kicks the shit out of your 2009.

Yea, I think Kevin said it best. 5240 is one of my most favorite web-things ever. I love the music it has produced and I'm amazed, and yet not (because I knew you'd do it), that you pulled it off so magnificently.
What's fun is to go back and listen (in the car) to the older Volumes and be struck by a song that you'd semi-forgotten... "oh yea, I love this song".
It is weird though, that we're at "the end". But I look forward to submitting some CD line-up suggestions next month or whatever you/we decide to do with it.
Way to go Shawn. This is truly something to be proud of. I hope that you are.

Thanks, guys, I am grateful that you've all hung in there so long, and that there was enough stuff that tickled yer fancies. Yes, I do this thing because I can't NOT do it, but I do also hope to entertain and/or reach people in some concrete way. I put all the jokes/riffs/silliness in there because it makes ME happy, but when you guys get it too, it makes it so, SO much better.

I've loved this blog. It's an inspiration how you've been so prolific yet so consistent, with so many moments of "what the crap", "my face just melted" and "damn that's brilliant!" dotted throughout the year's music.
