Awesome!

Got mine (NOT for free). Thanks Shawn... thanks for hangin' in there. I hope you're getting as much enjoyment and entertainment out of this as we are. Have a fun holiday weekend.

Hi,

I just finished listening to the whole Volume in its entirety. I still need to burn it and check it out in the car of course. But this was the first time since TWMMUB that I've listened to any of the songs of "Spring" one after another (which was my plan).

My gut reaction?, first impression?, initial summary?, is that it's very different from "Winter", but I'm not sure in what way(s) exactly, yet. There are more "short" songs in Volume II, and that's noticeable to me, but not in a direct way per se. I think the moods and emotions in Spring are a bit more extreme from one end to the other than Volume I. I like it and look forward to wearing it out in the car for the next couple of months.

Some highlights in Volume II, for me, are:

1. Snow Day - I'll grant that it's tough for me to be completely objective here because I can relate to this song so deeply that it's creepy. I can't help but consider this a highlight. So, that aside, I think the song is well-crafted and pulls from so many of my most favorite influences that it's just fun and memorable. And I get a kick out of hearing random people in my life yell "SNOW" for no particular reason at all.

2. Twin Powers - It's just the most coolest of moods and flow. It's peaceful, spacey, familiar, comforting in a way. No matter where I am or what I'm doing, when this song comes up, everything either stops or slows down because my mind wanders... in a really good way.

3. That Wine Makes My Urns Beer - OK, OK... so my highlights have, so far, included the first three tracks. But how can they not? I like how this song is put together too. But it's those mean-ass guitars that get me every time. And who doesn't like Spoonerisms for choruses?

4. Deserve - Whatever "Deserve" is supposed to be, it is. It's like looking at a monster. Is that a ghoul? Is it a zombie? A Swamp Thing? Does it matter? I don't know, but it's ugly and scary and coming this way. RUN!

5. We Could Make a Baby, Baby - Sue me.

6. Prolly Gonna Move - It's just cool and couldn't be a better any-ol'-day peek inside someone's brain than it is. Again, I can relate and it's very familiar. Lots of neato stuff going on in that :45 seconds or so. VAHg!

7. I really want to include "Inappropriate" and "It Feels Like You Aren't Even Trying" because I really dig both of those songs, for a variety of reasons. But my "highlights" list is getting out of hand.

Go Summer!

Me again.

It's that third note of the deep keyboard/organ part of "Twin Powers" that sets the tone, sets the mood. That, for me, is where is kicks off.

Thanks, Mike. It's nice to hear what does/doesn't hit people, because sometimes things I think will "land" with folks absolutely do, but other times people latch on to things I never would expect.

It's been really fun overall, sometimes very stressful. But honestly, most of the stress has to do with external factors that aren't about the music (like the fact that currently, I'm essentially unemployed again). I kind of wish things would calm down a bit, but y'all know how it is.

Almost done with #27.

Hello,
I stumbled across this site and I am not exactly sure what this is or what your trying to do but I am guessing that the you are basically just putting out a new song once a week, every monday for the year of 2009... right? Sounds like alot of hard work. I have listened to some of your songs though and I have to say I am impressed that you can put these together in one week. Keep up the good work!

Hello, Chelsea, thanks for stumbling! ;-)

You are correct on all guesses, and you are correct that it is a startling amount of work. But I'm a stubborn fool and I refuse to let it beat me down, and now I'm more than halfway done. So it would be lame to stop now.

I hope you come back here and comment further with us. We don't bite!

Just burned Spring. When I gave it a first spin my daughter came in. "Please put on number 9!" - She is madly in love with It was a really really bad Idea. I reacted stunned. "You recognise Shawn?"
"Of course. His backing vocals are really twlltale."

So if you ever wonder if you have a style, take it from a 7 year old.

I really like Spring. Because of the shorter songs and the abence of acoustic singer/songwriter stuff it sounds even more eclectic than Winter. Very nice. A bit heavier over all.

Favourites? Moist, Desrve, Color me corrected and Inappropriot.

Word of the day: Colon.

Your word of the day was "colon?" It proves that I still have the mind of a 12-year-old that I think that's hilarious.

I'm delighted to hear that your daughter likes ARRRBI. And an interesting point about the backups. I definitely do seem to gravitate to certain chord types when I'm arranging those. And it's completely arbitrary, too - I never "plan out" harmonies, I just start singing them when I'm working, and gradually layer until I'm satisfied. It may be that vocal harmonies are my favorite thing to work on in music right now - certainly much more than guitar things, which feels a lot more like work.

I hadn't really noticed the lack of "singer/songwriter" tunes the last three months.

#27 gets back into the riff-rock land.

So we should anticipate the Shawn Farley version of The Beatles' 'Because' or Keneally's 'I Will' instead of keep hoping you'll give us an all out 5 minutes plus guitar solo extravaganza?
