Hey, if you guys could help me out here, I'd very much appreciate it. I'm going to do a brief little Q&A-style internet interview, and they've asked me to send a few MP3's, from which they will choose one to have going in a "player" on the interview page itself.
So: as people who are listening to these tunes every week, what are the "top 4" tunes that you would give to someone who had never heard the stuff before, as a means to interest them in hearing the rest? Please post your answers in the comments, along with any thoughts you have as to the whys, if you feel like it. Thanks a bunch!

If the short list gets cut down to a single song, I would be tempted to pick something with a short intro and develops pretty quickly. No accounting for patience on the 'net.
Help Is On The Way
That Wine Makes My Urns Beer
Hey, Zeus! Zombie!
Fragmentary
Top 4:
Help is On The Way
Lake Water (Hot and Cold)
Sometimes Makin' Out Can Be Fun
Esther Hurts My Head
honorable mention:
Chinese Water Torture
Snow Day
It Feels Like You Aren't Even Trying
1. I Like You More Than You Do
2. Things Look Bleak
3. Fragmentary
4. Esther Hurts My Head
5. Lake Water
If it ends up being just one I'd vote for ILYMTYD. There is just something about that song, it's probably my favorite of anything you've done.
Alright...
Help Is On The Way
I Like You More Than You Do
That Wine Makes My Urns Beer
Hey, Zeus! Zombie!
those ones are definately catchy in their own ways.
Also up there would be Lake Water.
One of the questions in the interview asked specifically about ILYMTYD. Huh. Who knew?
Thanks for responses, guys!
The 5240 songs that I personally love most probably aren't the ones that most people would feel the same way about! Here's four I'm into which I reckon everyone else ought to love too ;)
1) ILYMTYD - acoustic, heartfelt
2) Urns Beer - fun rock with a healthy dose of quirk
3) ARRBI - comedy with added Beatles
4) Twin Powers - great atmosphere, "begging for rescue"
Since I'm so indecisive, here's a bonus list of 11 more which stand out to me as awesome in some way:
Hey Zeus, Help is on the way, Lake Water, Busy Girl, Fragmentary, SJMOCBF, Esther, Things Look Bleak, Snow Day, IFLYAET, Fragmentary.
In other news, the retrograde ep and 10 Print rawk.
I'm surprised to see a lot of love for "I Like You More Than You Do". That track doesn't stand out much to me compared to a lot of the others.
Hi,
So the interview has happened? Is it too late to make some suggestions?
Who was the interview with?

Hi,
I agree with Jason when he says, "I would be tempted to pick something with a short intro and develops pretty quickly". It would also be helpful to know a couple of other things:
1. What's the point of the interviewer's website? What's the theme... what's the general idea? Is it just a blog of "weird/cool stuff I found on the net" or is it specific to music or what?
2. If it's strictly music interests, does it get more specific than that, genre-wise or something?
Anyway, if one of the interview questions was specific to ILYMTYD, then I wouldn't submit that one for that reason; make the visitors click on the link and go look for it. But at the same time, one could easily make the argument that it SHOULD be the song for that reason because it was mentioned in the interview. I love that track and would probably call it a personal top 5. It sucks that they'll only post one.
"Hey, this guy is going to write and release 52 songs this year. Here's ONE". :)
So I'll go with this (I hate picking), in no particular order:
That Wine Makes My Urns Beer - This song is just so great to me. It's complete, full-sounding, rawks, catchy, and so on. Maybe it's "too much" for the website. But it would still be a fine choice. It just depends on the typical audience of the website in question and what they're willing to absorb.
Twin Powers - Strong track, great mood tune no question. But is there enough there to fairly represent enough of Shawn? Maybe not. That's one of the challenges of picking from this list. None of 'em really tell enough of the "story" by themselves.
Esther Hurts My Head - Cool groove, catchy, has a nice transition there at the end, so there is some variety within it, despite a long repetitive riff. But it certainly settles in quickly enough.
Sometimes Just Makin' Out Can Be Fun (Sometimes) - Well... it's FUN, also catchy. It's gets to it pretty quickly... a good tempo for this purpose.
Busy Girl - If the website has any interest in pop music, this may be a good choice. It's singable and memorable.
Help is on the Way - Short and Sweet, catchy (sorry to keep using that, but Shawn, your music is catchy, regardless of genre and all that). It rocks, but not as heavy as some others, sticks in people's heads forever.
OK, so to narrow it down, I'd probably go with these four:
That Wine Makes My Urns Beer
Esther Hurts My Head
Sometimes Just Makin' Out Can Be Fun
Help is on the Way

Interview was w/Internet Radio Magazine. Supposed to be available/published on June 3. They emailed me some questions and I sent them answers. I'll also have mailed them a CDR with the first 20 tunes on there, so they'll at least have heard them all.
A couple of the questions indicated that they had at least read my bio.
Hi,
Cool, interesting. So did they just contact you out of the blue?

No. I've been working with an online PR firm for the last three months.
