Tough It Out

So, I guess I should mention another song is done and in the can, called "I Like You More Than You Do." I borrowed Lizzy's Taylor again last week, and I had it out of the case for five minutes before I started writing this tune, and now it's sent off to Darin to be mastered. I would like to believe that I'm just getting used to being in the flow these days, but I'm not used to it. I still have to fight off the procrastination demons, even though I'm much more focused these days than I typically am.

And then there's the economy, and the fact that I remain unemployed, and can't remain in that state forever. It really sucks to watch the hard-worked for savings pile start to dwindle. There are some possibilities, but nothing concrete. I know it's tough everywhere, not just here. I am trying to keep my head down and keep working on stuff for this, but dire thoughts creep in.

I would say that if anything threatens the ultimate success of this project, it would be continued unemployment. Ironically, it's that very state which for the meantime has left me with all kinds of time to work on stuff. It was probably very good for me to be off work at the beginning of the year as everything got underway. But if it gets to be April or so and I still haven't found anything... well, I'm not going to think about that.

I realize this stuff doesn't really have anything specific to do with the music... but it goes to state of mind of the defendant, Your Honor.

Hey, you gotta pay the bills. They don't stop coming in. Maybe this is why you craete the cushion of songs-- becasue when you start your new gig, you'll lose some productiive work hours for music. But that is what makes some people great... they keep on trucking even during the most dire times. Keep your head up, things tend to have a way of working themselves out. You will persevere.

As you have correctly identified, having the time has advantages and disadvantages.

In June 07 I set myself a goal of writing and recording a CD's worth of songs in 12 month period. Spookily, I wanted to finish it before my 40th birthday - I failed - Miserably.

I found that having a job and a wife just didn't give me time to actually record stuff, but having a job and a wife pays the bills and keeps me sane. I had plenty of ideas, but barely recorded a note :(

Well, what's really important is the fact that the pick slide at the end of Sublimeinal still gives me a boner.

Major respect from across the pond, I freaking love this project. Its a huge encouragement to me to see what can be achieved with the kind of creative vision and determination you've got.
Times are indeed tough dude. I let my fretboard and drum kit bear the brunt of my frustrations! Perhaps a cunning paypal button could be stuck somewhere on the site for those of us who want to participate by being patrons of the arts?

Couple of quick questions:
- What DAW are you using?

- Are you considering a competition for a song theme suggestions?

- Can you reccommend a pizza topping?
