On Top Of Old Smoky

I SMELL smoky, actually - because there are quite a few people over at the rehearsal space, and apparently many of them are smoking cigarettes. I LOVE carrying the aroma of an ashtray around with me in my clothes, MMMMMmmmm.

Lizzy was scheduled to come over and lay down her part for "Spokane" today, but yesterday she asked for another week to work on it. That was fine with me because I haven't quite finished up the drum programming for that one, and this gives me time to do that.

Instead I packed up lots of gear and took it down to The Institution on Western Ave, site of the HZ rehearsal room, for the purpose of re-amping guitar tracks I've recorded here at the apartment, through raging loud guitar amps. This way I can record guitars here in relative quiet without disturbing the neighbors, and then when I go to re-amp, I can worry just about sounds, and not have to worry about getting a performance.

But as I mentioned, it's a bit too busy down there for now, though I did get the guitar solo on "Squandered All My Time" tracked (through the old Lab Series L5), and it sounds great, and now that song is finito. I think I'll try to get it mixed in the next couple of days. Maybe it's the week 2 song? I don't know, but I love that it could be. I love that a song that didn't exist at all a week ago could be getting released to the world in a week. That encapsulates everything that's most exciting to me about doing a project like this.

So, I've come home to do some computer work, and I'll head back down to the Institution tonight when I figure most people in rock bands will be A) playing a gig, or B) out drinking with their other friends That Have Lives. Unlike me. I'll hopefully be the lone guy at the rehearsal space making a lot of racket on a Saturday night.

I love being that guy.
